NME: How are you?
Tom Meighan: “I’m well, we’ve just done a great gig in Brisbane, it was incredible!”

You have the joint highest number of nominations. How does that feel?
“We got nominated for four which is fucking wonderful. I’m blown away by it, it’s an honour. It should be a good night!”

Is there one Award you’d like to win the most?
“I’d love to win them all! But there’s a lot of great bands there so I’d say good luck to everyone in the room!”

What do you make of the competition?
“They’ve all made amazing records, so may the best band win.”

Do you have a message for the readers? Why should they vote for your band?
“Please carry on voting, Kasabian needs you right now! God bless you.”

Are you looking forward to the ceremony – anyone you’d like to meet?
“We’ll be there all suited and booted! I’d like to catch up with Mr Gallagher. My Chemical Romance? If they took my ventriloquist comments as a compliment then I can’t argue. It’s all fun.”

If you win, where will you keep your Award?
“I’ll give it to my grandma, she’d appreciate it, bless her. Do l know it’s an ‘up yours’ middle finger? Yeah, but she’s from Lancashire so she understands!”

What have you got planned between now and the ceremony?
“We’ve got that show for you lot at Hammersmith Palais [February 13], It’s going to be a big one. It’s really sad the venue is shutting down. We’ll give it a good send off and a kiss!”

Who would be your Godlike Genius?
“My mum! She deserves it.”

Who will be this year’s dark horses?
“My Chemical Romance could win a few. It’s difficult to say. I expect a few surprises this year.”

Will you be checking out the Indie Rock or Indie Rave Awards Tour?
“Rave! I want to see CSS, they’re fucking top! I do love The view though, but The Horrors can get fucked.”
