Serge Pizzorno Good evening Great Britain. This is Sergio and Tom from Kasabian and you’re listening to Radio One: One World.
Tom Meighan We’ve been touring, no end, just non-stop, you know? Just getting out there, plugging, doing our show, next venue, next venue, you know? We went on tour with the Von Bondies and we went on tour with Chikinki, didn’t we?
SP Yeah.
TM We’ve just been non-stop gigging man. Just getting exposure, you know? Just getting out there.
SP That tour taught us a lot about playing live, and not only that, like, shit, we got something really good going on here. One drummer, one went missing, he walked to Dundee with a spoon in his eye. Another one just didn’t want to do it, and then a third wanted too much money, so now we’ve got a drummer, we hope.
TM Now we’ve got The Steak, he’s like, proper. Flip him over, he’s rare, he’s ready to go. He beats the hell out of the kit, you know? He’s going to give you the beat of your life, so we’ve got the man. We’re fine, we’re all happy. It’s all good… I’m into The Bees, they’re from the Isle of Man.
SP Yeah, The Bees are really…
TM Yeah, I don’t know if you can count that as Great Britain, you know what I mean? But I like The Bees a lot. The new Hope of The States’ single’s really good actually, that was a really good single that is, that’s a good single, fair play. That’s got, I put my hands up to that, man, but you know, it’s… Still the bait’s got to be grabbed, innit? You know, someone’s got to grab the bait, whether it be us or anyone else, I don’t know. But you know?
SP It’s like a fishing program isn’t it? Yeah. It’s this raving around but no one’s…
TM Basically we just, we’re just there to give you a show and a buzz, you know, and if we can’t do that then go away, you know, that’s the way I look at it, if you don’t like it, there’s the door, you know. The thing is about bands, man, it’s giving it a feeling, a live show. Not a lot of bands do that, I mean, live, the whole purpose of playing live is that people get off on you, man… and if people ain’t getting off on you, you know? It ain’t working, you know? But people… It seems to be working. People are getting off on this kind of euphoric experience with us, you know? This kind of dance-rock vibe thing. It’s all great, you know? Dance away into the sunset kind of feeling, you know?
SP There’s a lot of happy people at these gigs, which is good.
TM Yeah, yeah, yeah. The album’s titled Kasabian, we just got… I think we’re going on that.
SP 16th of August.
TM 16th of August it’s out. I just like the title Kasabian ’cause it’s just slick, it’s bold, it’s just using your name, you know? I like doing that, man.
SP Believe us, it’s not a cop-out.
TM It’s not a cop-out.
SP It suits the… it suits the mood of the whole album.
TM Yeah. Yeah, we’re playing Glastonbury, we’re opening stage two, 11 o’clock in the morning, so… That should be some… because we’ve never played Glastonbury before, and I’ve never been to Glastonbury, so – nor has Serge – and to be opening that stage at that time of morning with all these teeny-bopper kids and all this, with all these people rushing in, and it’s just gonna be absolutely…
SP It’s gonna be a moment.
TM Yeah, it’s gonna be a moment in time, and just gonna go, come on, let’s have it. Let’s have, I wanna see the sunshine, you know? I wanna see it all, I wanna kick it all off, and hopefully we… ‘Cause starting it is just as important as finishing it, I think, as well, so…
SP We definitely will… We’ll make sure, we’ll set the tone for the whole festival. Yeah. And we’ll set the marker on that festival. ‘Cause any band thinks they’re gonna go there and have an easy ride, it ain’t gonna happen, because we’re gonna play first, man. You’ve gotta live up to a lot.
