Kasabian – Happenings
20 years of answers

It’s been 20 years since the release of the album “Kasabian” and the shock of their first visit to Japan at Summer Sonic 2004. Kasabian, who has been swimming through a turbulent scene and has been ranked #1 in the UK charts for six consecutive albums since their album “Empire“, has released their latest album.

I listened to their old albums again to see what it was about Kasabian that fascinated me, and not only the general idea of ”danceable music” but also indescribable skin sensations such as “mysteriousness” and “dangerousness” came back to me one after another. Listening to their new album with that in mind, I realized that although there are of course various assortments, that skin sensation remains unchanged. Although the times have passed, the members have grown older, and the vocalist has changed since Tom Meighan left the band, this is still the case.

It felt like a 20-year reckoning, when I realized that the songwriting of Serge Pizzorno, who is now also the lead singer, may have been the source of much of Kasabian’s sensibility. From dramatic songs (Darkest Lullaby to the dance tune that slowly takes you to the top, Call), to punkish songs (How Far Will You Go) to the sensual Coming Back to Me Good, the songs are simply amazing.

All of the songs are catchy and killer, yet rich in variety, and (in a good way) they are bursting with the Kasabian style of not being well-behaved, which was reassuring above all else. The last number, Algorithms, in particular, conveys that Kasabian is in a comfortable state right now with its emotional vocals and unadorned performance. This song has a warm, vocal feel and a long part. It is a work that is completed when it is performed live, and it is a deep impression of the true value of Kasabian, who has grown together with the audience.
